Choosing a strategy type

A go-to-market strategy is not written the same way as a turnaround or an AI strategy. Cogliva now offers 18 distinct strategy types, each grounded in a dedicated methodology. When you pick a type, the New Strategy Wizard preselects the right family, adapts the questions it asks, and tailors the on-screen guidance — so the result reflects how that kind of strategy is actually built.

The six families

The strategy types are grouped into families so you can find the right one quickly:

  • Enterprise & time-horizon — whole-organization direction and period-based planning.
  • Market & commercial — how the organization grows, positions, and wins in its markets.
  • Transformation & capability — building new capability and changing how the organization operates.
  • Transaction & recovery — high-stakes transitions and stabilization.
  • Network & protection — working through others and safeguarding the organization.
  • Flexible / topic-specific — an adaptive structure for a strategic topic without a dedicated methodology yet.

The 18 strategy types

  • Full business strategy, annual strategy, and multi-year strategy.
  • Growth, go-to-market, market entry, differentiation, customer, and product or service strategy.
  • Digital transformation, AI, operational improvement, and innovation strategy.
  • M&A strategy and turnaround strategy.
  • Partnership or ecosystem strategy and risk and resilience strategy.
  • Topic-specific strategy for anything that does not yet fit a dedicated methodology.

How the type shapes the wizard

Each type maps to a family and a methodology that determine which context questions you answer, which sections the strategy emphasises, and how downstream outputs (objectives, initiatives, tactical plans) are suggested. Whatever the type, every strategy still resolves into the same consistent ten-part structure, so it reads and edits the same way — the type changes the emphasis and the guidance, not the shape of the final document.

Where to launch from

You can choose a type from the New Strategy dialog, or start directly from the Start Here launcher, which lets you browse and search all types by family and open the wizard with the type, family, and guidance already set. To go deeper on the frameworks behind these strategies, the public guides library covers many of them in detail.

How to use this in Cogliva

  1. Pick the type that matches your engagement before you start — it sets the right methodology.
  2. Use the family grouping in Start Here to find a type quickly.
  3. If nothing fits exactly, choose the topic-specific type for a controlled, adaptive structure.
