What context a strategy needs before you generate it

A strategy is only as good as the context it is built on. Because each of Cogliva's strategy types is written differently, each one has its own minimum set of context it needs before a defensible strategy can be generated. This article explains what that means in practice and how to satisfy it quickly.

Why context requirements differ by type

The information a turnaround strategy depends on is not the same as what a go-to-market or an AI strategy needs. So rather than asking every strategy for the same generic inputs, Cogliva tailors the required context to the type you chose. Enterprise and time-horizon types — such as a full business, annual, or multi-year strategy — ask for the least, because much of their context comes from your diagnostic and organization profile.

When context is missing

If the diagnostic and your inputs are missing core information for the type you selected, the Context step alerts you. It lists the mandatory fields for that strategy type and explains what is still needed. Until those fields are filled, you cannot continue to generate the strategy — this is deliberate, so a strategy is never produced on top of a thin or incomplete picture.

How to satisfy the requirements

  • Fill the mandatory fields directly in the Context step — they are highlighted so you know exactly what is outstanding.
  • Complete or enrich the underlying diagnostic first; much of the required context flows from it automatically.
  • Import an existing strategy document to auto-fill many of these fields at once (see below).

Auto-filling from a former strategy

If you already have a board strategy, an annual strategy deck, or a transformation roadmap, you do not have to retype everything. Uploading it in the Context step lets Cogliva extract the strategic context and pre-fill the mandatory fields for you, which you then review and confirm. The related article on importing an existing strategy document covers this in full.

How to use this in Cogliva

  1. Choose your strategy type first — it determines which context is mandatory.
  2. Complete the diagnostic so most context flows through automatically.
  3. Fill any highlighted mandatory fields, or import a former strategy to auto-fill them, then continue.
